"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the “Universe,” a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest
– a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
“The purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate,
to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others.
Step forward, reach out and help. This week reach to someone that might need a lift”
We can all get MAD and Make A Difference.
The Magical Power to Change the World lies within each of us.
We define “making a difference” or “having a social impact” by the number of people whose lives you improve, and how much you improve them by. We usually think of “improving lives” in terms of “increasing well-being”, treating everyone as equally valuable, and perhaps extending “people” to include non-humans. We take a broad notion of well-being, including happiness, health and a lack of suffering, as well as broader notions of human flourishing or satisfying one’s preferences.
Making a difference is also about advancing justice, because a more just world is one in which people will live better lives - advancing justice has social impact.
"One person can Make a Difference, and everyone should try", said John F. Kennedy. It’s critical to note that people who’ve made a real difference aren’t all privileged, advantaged or “special” by any stretch. Many come from disadvantaged families, crushing circumstances and initially limited capabilities, but have found ways to pick themselves up and rise above their circumstances to transform their own lives and those around them.
Find out how these makers, shakers and disruptors shape the world around them in powerful and constructive ways: learn about the seven key behaviors that set them apart — habitual ways of behaving and approaching life and work that distinguish them from those who long to make a difference but don`t (yet) have the knowledge and skills to find the way.
